2023's picnic was held on a beautiful day on September 6th.  Special attendees included ex-football coach and science teacher extraordnaire, 92 year old Russ Quackenbush and his lovely wife, Sharon.  Chris Jackins recognized Mr. Quackenbush's distinguished 37 year teaching career.

Kurt Jacobsen, returned to Seattle from Boston with tales of solely traveling Africia after graduating from Harvard University and then revealing his career documenting and filming the NBA Champion Boston Celtics of the 1980's and teaching math on the east coast.

Chris Arpin traveled from Bonn, Germany where he has had an outstanding music career leading  symphony orchestras in Europe.

Approximately 75 classmates attended and with remaining funds in our financial coffer another picnic has been planned for September 4th, 2024.

                                                                                                                                                                September 6th,2022 provided a beautiful day for the 70 classmates who attended the 70th birthday party picnic festivities held at site #2 in Magnuson Park at the Sand Point Naval facilities in north east Seattle.  Tent City 3, a non Profit organization, was provided with all the unused utensils, drinks and excess food not consumed or utilized by our engaged classmates.  Going forward we hope to REPEAT this picnic and anticipate that the Wednesday following Labor Day, classmates from the class of 1970 might gather and enjoy one another's company. Thus,  WEDNESDAY September 6th, 2023 will provide another opportunity for the Ballard High Class of 1970 to reunited and celebrate another picnic/....party..../get together.../non drunken brawl!!!  Hopefully, Glen Moore will barbeque and smoke more coho salmon and Greta Hewitt will share her veggy burgers!! Carol Williams, Marlo Smith and Kathy Fabrizio baked their brains out while Sharon and Scott Ford provided the music genre of our high school era.  Jerry Lind, Paul Ekman, Dave Follman and Jim Pennock directed and choregraphed the picnic set up.  We have a wonderful group of individuals who want to continue these yearly events.  Please contact any person on the planning committee if you would like to help plan the next event...The more the merrier!!! Hopefully, working with the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department we will be able to secure the Magnuson site again, but, the lottery system in place by the Seattle Parks and Recreation for securement of the facility does not allow for any guarantees at this time.

A "70th Birthday Bash for BHS Class of 1970" will be held on Tuesday, September 6th, 2022 at Warren G. Magnuson Park, Picnic Site #2 7400 SandPoint Way NE, Seattle, Washington.

Cost:FREE ** Enough generous donations were secured at our class reunion last fall so we will be able to fund this wonderful summer Birthday event!!!

*Time 1:00 p.m. to 5 p.m.
*BBQ food, beverages and birthday desserts will be provided
*Seating will be somewhat limited, bring your own chair or blanket
*No alcholic beverages allowed in park

**The committee attempted to "game" the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department to secure any of the venures at Golden Gardens.  Unfortunately we were not able to secure any of the Golden Gardens sites. We were however somewhat lucky in securing the Magnuson site as it was our 2nd choice with a 2nd choice date.  The Magnuson site, although not our first choice, was secured for $350.  Hopefully, looking forward to another excellent turnout by our classmates on TUESDAY, September 6th.
